Last year, I was pretty unimpressed with this round of awards. While I did like some of the performances, the biggest thing that happened was Adam Lambert’s controversial stage show, and, for me, it was the comments after the show that were the real what-the-hell-are-some-people-thinking moments.
This year, I wasn’t very excited for the nominees. You would think the year was pretty bland for mainstream music. It wasn’t, but the nominees would lead you to believe the only performers out there were Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Eminem, and Lady Antebellum. On the other hand, the performance list seems to be better than the nominations list. There seems to be a good mixture of acts. My only issue is that country (a role filled only by Taylor Swift tonight; however, the CMAs did air recently) and rap (this genre especially) seem underrepresented. Now, these are not my favorite genres, and I don’t really listen to them, but they are prominent genres of music. Ah, well.
